How PeanutNotes handles your family’s information

Last updated 26 September 2026

Who we are

PeanutNotes is a learning and skills application for children in Grades 1–8 and their families. Questions about this page go to [email protected].

What we store

  • Account. Sign-in is handled by Auth0. We keep the identifier Auth0 gives us, plus the email address and name it passes along, so one login maps to one family account.
  • Family and learner profiles. An optional family name, and for each learner a first name, grade and the subjects on their timetable.
  • Learning activity. Notes (date, subject and text), saved reading, generated quizzes and study sheets, quiz answers and scores, reported questions, skills and practice records, goals and weekly check-ins, and the points and badges derived from them.
  • School records. Report cards entered by your family, including school year, grade, report date, subject marks, teacher comments, the child’s reflection and parent review status. We also store who added, updated or reviewed a report and when. These records are entered by your family, not imported from school.
  • Technical records. Server logs needed to run and secure the service.

How we use it

To run PeanutNotes for your family: showing each learner their notes, practice, skills, goals and school records, and letting grown-ups review them from their own sign-in. Invited grown-ups have the same family access. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

Generated material. To create reading and questions, we send note text, subjects, grade and semester to our AI provider. Relevant earlier practice, skill names and questions flagged for avoidance can also be included. Study-sheet generation uses note text and grade. Names are not required, but note text is sent as written, so keep personal details out of notes. Report-card records are not part of lesson generation. Generated material can be wrong; families should check it when something seems off.

Family emails. Invitations and optional missing-note reminders go through our email provider. They include the recipient’s email address and the names or family details used in the message. Reminder emails name the children who have not saved a note of their own. You can turn reminders off or pause them in Dashboard → Rhythm.

Sharing: the garden link

A parent can turn on a shared garden, and anyone who has its link can open it. It shows the garden name, the Peanut’s stage, level, streak and badges, skills in progress or achieved, goals marked as shared, and published lessons with their title, up to three key facts, saved reading and quiz. Published lesson data can include source excerpts and the grade used to create the reading. The garden does not display the child’s private note history, report cards or quiz results. Review material before publishing, because it is derived from notes. Turning sharing off makes the link stop working, but it cannot recall copies someone may already have made.

Cookies

We set a sign-in session cookie (through Auth0) and a cookie remembering which learner is selected on this device. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Providers

  • Auth0 for sign-in, including Google sign-in where it is offered.
  • Microsoft Azure for hosting and the database, in the Canada Central region.
  • OpenAI for generating reading, quizzes and study sheets from the learning information described above.
  • Postmark for family invitations and optional missing-note reminder emails.

Children

PeanutNotes is meant to be used by children with a grown-up’s knowledge. A family account is created by whoever signs up. Each learner has a profile and the learning and school records described above. Grown-ups on the account can review a learner’s records and remove notes and report cards.

Keeping and deleting information

Information stays for as long as the family account exists. To delete a learner profile or the whole family account, email [email protected] from the sign-in address and we will remove it.
